Metadata Editing Software

GEDCOM is an open file format and the de facto standard specification for storing genealogical data. (See Wikipedia)

Most Family Tree programs can export data in GEDCOM format. Version 5.5. is the most commonly used version.

The information in GEDCOM files can be used to enhance photo metadata. There is common information with some of the metadata that can be stored in the XMP / IPTC section in photos.

In particular:

  • Person Information – Surname, First Names, Identifiers, Characteristics, Description
  • Location Information – Address or Place information, Latitude and Longitude
  • Event Information – Event Type (Birth, Marriage), Date

Photo2Graph allows you to import this information and use it to index Photos. This information is written to the Catalog where it can be used for Graph Database searching.

For more information on how this is handled in Photo2Graph, see this page.
